Smithson Olympic Games
Students at Smithson Public School in Kitchener shared the “Olympic Spirit” with the many athletes and participants at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C. Throughout the month of February, Smithson students came together in multi-grade teams to learn about a country (other than Canada) that were represented at the Winter Olympics. Their celebration included a Torch Relay, following a writing contest to select the torch bearers. Fun activities included Olympic-style Hockey, Bobsleigh, Alpine & Freestyle Skiing, Curling, Biathalon and more. The Olympic values of friendship, enthusiasm and respect fit well with Smithson’s P.R.I.D.E. Program (polite, responsible, integrity, diligence & enthusiasm). Various challenges throughout the two weeks, highlighted these values as goals for our students to strive toward.
